Geometry (Greek; geo = earth, metria = measure) a branch of
mathematics concerned with the properties of space, including points,
lines, curves, planes, surfaces in space, and solids. Geometry was one
of the two fields of pre-modern mathematics, the other being the study
of numbers.
Classically,
Euclidean
geometry was focused on Compass and straightedge constructions. In
modern times, geometric concepts have been extended. Geometry now uses
methods of calculus and abstract algebra, so that many modern branches
of the field are not easily recognizable as the descendants of early
geometry
