Google Chrome for Windows
is a web browser built with open source code and developed by Google that
combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster,
safer, and easier. The name is derived from the graphical user interface frame,
or "chrome", of web browsers. Chromium is the name of the open source project
behind Google Chrome, released under the BSD license on 2 September 2008. The
public stable release was on December 11, 2008. In May 2009, Chrome was the
fourth most widely used browser, with 1.80% of worldwide usage share of web
browsers. Development versions of Chrome for Linux and Mac OS X were released in
June 2009.
