Golden rectangles have been constructed using
additive squares of the Greater Pyramid of Caral-Supe.
Caral was a large settlement in the Supe Valley, near Barranca, Peru, some 200 km north of Lima. Caral is the most ancient city of the American Continent (Americas).
A golden rectangle
is a rectangle whose side lengths are in the golden ratio,
approximately 1:1.618. A feature of this shape is that when a square section is
removed, the remainder is another golden rectangle. Square removal can
be repeated infinitely, which leads to an approximation of
the golden or Fibonacci spiral.
