"Missing" René Descartes letter discovered at Haverford College
The 1641 letter took a circuitous path to the private college in Pennsylvania after it was snatched from the Institut de France. A Dutch scholar alerted Haverford to the treasure in its archives. College president Stephen Emerson said there was only one possible course of action -- "return the letter." Descartes is a seminal figure in philosophy and mathematics, best known for, "I think, therefore I am." Source: Otawa Citizen.com, February 26, 2010.
